MOST MEMORABLE GEORGIA MOMENT: TOURING THE HISTORIC DISTRICT OF SAVANNAH ON A HOP ON HOP OFF TROLLEY - SO MUCH HISTORY AND SO MANY BEAUTIFUL BUILDINGS TO LOOK AT!
Georgia was one of my favorite states to visit, and I think it was because it was of the city we went to. Good old SAVANNAH!
One of my friends here in the States had a wedding of a childhood friend to go to, and asked me to be his date. Not one to pass on exploring a new city, I didn't hesitate to join him. I had always wanted to go to Savannah, so we road tripped up on a Friday afternoon from West Palm.
So much history and intrigue. This was my first proper introduction to how much history was present in the United States. Up until then most of my perception of the US had been of a country focused on big lights, big cities, and big sports. I always felt I was lacking seeing the historical aspects of the country, especially when one compares them to the deeply historical cities of Europe. Of course, I always crave that historical background, so I was thrilled to discover this in Savannah.
I spent a good 36 hours in Savannah and of course, I forced my friend to going on to a trolley ride. I mean, you see it in the travel shows and on TV right? You must do it! We had the best driver on our first ride (it was a hop on hop off) and afterwards discovered that this was crucial to the enjoyment of your tour. We got on to another trolley after stopping for lunch at the Pirate House and the driver, for whatever reason was not as good, unfortunately. So as a note to future travelers, if you don't like your hop on hop off guide, hop off and try the next one!
I loved exploring the Historic District, and the old houses were beautiful. So far, one of my favorite states to visit.
